Top Chef Angelo Sosa, born as a son of a Dominican father and an Italian mother in Connecticut, has been known as Korean Culinary Ambassador actively introducing Korean cuisine to American households. For example, with his South Korean mothers’ approved “Bibimbap Burger” which was voted by Eater as the “Greatest Burger in American” in 2011, he stated that “there are whole different layers to exploring Korean cuisine with the generation of young chefs” from his own experiments with different Korean ingredients.
In 2012, he published the cookbook, “Flavor Exposed: 100 Global Recipes from Sweet to Salty, Earthy to Spicy,” which he combined flavors and cultures through his recipes, continuing to introduce series of Korean inspired dishes.
The 2016 K-Food Fair largely supports the Korean inspired recipes that can be purchased online through this rapidly growing meal kits delivery services in the States. Currently, the meal kit delivery market stands at 1.5 billion, and is expected to reach 36 billion by 2025. Chef Angelo Sosa, affiliated with CHEF’D, one of the meal kit delivery services in the States, offers one of his lifetime signature recipes, “Tomato Soup” This recipe showcases the perfect marriage of Korean and American flavors. The extensive use of “Gochujang” in this dish delivers the authentic flavors of the staple Korean street food “Tteobokki”‘s sauce. Chef Angelo Sosa’s brilliant interpretation of this deep spicy Korean fermented red pepper paste in to his grandmother’s traditional, thick hearty tomato soup recipe is easy to cook and works for all comforting occasions. From overseeing the efficiency of culinary collaborations, the K-Food Fair will make its best effort to build partnerships with the mainstream distribution outlets ranging from Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s, Costco and a number of leading meal kit delivery services in upcoming years until every American household stores jars of kimchi, gim, Doenjang and Gochujang in their pantries.
At the reception on November 11th, guests will be served with the popular Korean Hors D’Oeuvres, such as Soy Plum Marinated Galbi, Steamed Pork Mandu, Butterfield Ginger Prawns, Crispy Korean Chicken Balls, Kimchi Grilled Cheese along with Chef Angelo Sosa’s Tomato Soup, Japchae, Doenjang Salmon with Carrot Kimchi Salad. These dishes will be paired with the Korean alcoholic beverages such as Soju cocktails, “Soju Crisp,” “Prima Donna,” Korean beer, Makgeolli (fermented rice wine), and Bokbunja Ju (Korean Wild Berry Wine).
Also, Korean traditional organic rice soju, Tokki Soju, Korean National vintage fermented paste brand, Jook Jang Yeon, a variety of kimchi, the red ginseng brand, KGC, and organic seaweed snack brand, Hai Wo Da Mi, will be showcased at The Gallery.
