The wildly popular Gen Korean BBQ House, which brought its long waits for Korean grill dinners to San Jose a year ago, will open its second Northern California location in Fremont.

An early 2017 opening is planned at Pacific Commons, one of the huge centers along Auto Mall Parkway and west of Interstate 880.

Gen Korean is an all-you-can-eat, grill-your-own concept with wait staff bringing platters of meat and seafood — bulgogi, Wagyu beef tongue, shrimp, spicy samgyubsal (pork belly), daechang (ox intestine) — to the tables, along with sauces and ban chan (sides).

Waits of two hours for a table are common; on weekday afternoons, that could be pared down to 30 minutes. Luckily, Pacific Commons and its neighbor centers are home to plenty of shopping options to help diners while away the time.

Gen Korean first opened in Tustin, then expanded to Alhambra, Huntington Beach, Torrance and other SoCal locations before joining the mix at the Pacific Rim center on Hostetter Road in North San Jose. According to the restaurant’s website, the chain’s first Hawaii outpost, in Honolulu, is coming soon.

As with the San Jose location, the ACYE meals in  Fremont will be priced at $15 for lunch and $20 for dinner. Details: www.genkoreanbbq.com
