Tradition and Legacy in Every Bowl
At BCD Tofu House, every bowl of soon tofu is steeped in tradition, legacy, and a deep love for Korean cuisine.
The story begins with Hee Sook Lee, a first-generation Korean immigrant with a passion for cooking and sharing meals with family. Her journey started in Bukchang Dong, a neighborhood in Korea where her mother-in-law ran a restaurant. It was there that Mrs. Lee first trained in the art of Korean cooking—a foundation that would later inspire the name BCD.
After moving to the U.S., Mrs. Lee chose to focus on soon tofu among Korea’s many iconic dishes. Drawn to its comforting taste and health benefits, she envisioned bringing this warm, nourishing soup to American tables. In 1996, she opened the first BCD Tofu House in Koreatown, Los Angeles.
Today, BCD has grown to over 13 locations, each managed with care by Mrs. Lee and her dedicated team. Despite the growth, BCD remains committed to quality, preserving the original recipe for its signature soon tofu soup. Guided by Mrs. Lee’s vision, BCD continues to introduce the flavors of Korea to the world—one bowl at a time.
